About the event
Carriage Room Sessions is an ongoing live music series at Chez Serendip devoted to deep listening, musical conversation, and shared presence.
Hosted in the historic Carriage Room beneath the redwoods, this series brings jazz into a space designed for closeness and resonance. The room is warm, acoustically alive, and intentionally intimate. There is no elevated stage, no separation between artist and audience, and no background chatter. The music lives in the center of the room, unfolding in real time.
At the heart of this series is Jazz Cats, led by Santa Cruz–based saxophonist Max Goldfield-Brown. Max grew up here. His relationship to jazz has been shaped by devotion, loss, discipline, and return. After stepping away from the music in his late teens and feeling the cost of that absence deeply, jazz became not just an art form but a way back to himself.
For Max, jazz is not about performance…
