The Carriage House
A historic home in the redwoods, held with warmth, beauty, and intention.
The Carriage House at Chez Serendip is a lovingly restored 1928 home set among towering redwoods on a six-acre sanctuary in Scotts Valley. It is a place to land comfortably, gather thoughtfully, and spend time in a space that feels genuinely cared for.
The home carries history, character, and a quiet creative energy. Many guests share that they begin to relax almost immediately after arriving.
The space
The Carriage House is a private, self-contained upper-level home filled with natural light, original woodwork, and curated details that reflect decades of story.
Inside, you will find:
-
Two comfortable bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed
-
A cozy living room with books, games, and creative touches
-
A historic salon and formal dining room designed for real meals and conversation
-
A full kitchen set up for everyday living, not just short visits
The kitchen is meaningfully stocked with cooking tools, appliances, and daily necessities. Guests often comment on how easy it feels to cook, settle in, and live here without needing to run out for basics. Linens, towels, paper goods, soaps, shampoo, and laundry supplies are provided with care so your time here can feel easeful rather than logistical.

Outdoor living
Life at the Carriage House naturally extends outdoors.
Mornings are often spent with coffee or tea on the covered porch. Days invite meals and conversation on the sun deck, or walks through the gardens and nearby forest trails. Evenings tend to slow naturally, with the redwoods creating a sense of quiet and privacy that feels rare.
Although the property is accessible, many guests share that it feels like being far away from everything.
The wider property
The Carriage House is a private home reserved fully for you during your stay. It sits within the larger Chez Serendip property, a living sanctuary where a small number of residents, caretakers, artists, and animals also live and work.
You may occasionally notice activity elsewhere on the land or hear music in the distance. Guests are never expected to participate unless they wish to, and privacy is always respected.

Optional experiences during your stay
Some guests come to Chez Serendip to rest and do very little. Others enjoy enriching their stay with optional experiences curated from our extended community.
These may include bodywork, sound healing, gentle movement, private meals, creative sessions, time with the horses, or guided experiences on the land. Family-friendly offerings for children are also available.
All experiences are optional, seasonal, and coordinated with care. There is never an expectation to participate.

Staying here supports something larger
