About the event
Falling Up: A New Way to Play with Gravity is a guided movement workshop rooted in the principles of contact improvisation.
Together, we’ll explore ways to awaken the spine and work with kinetic energy—learning how to fall, recover, support, and lift through responsive movement. Drawing from contemporary dance, Alexander Technique, and contact improvisation, this workshop supports dancers in developing ease, clarity, and confidence while moving with gravity rather than against it.
Contact improvisation is a movement practice based in listening through the body. It often includes rolling, shared points of contact, weight exchange, and spontaneous partnering. All touch in this workshop is consensual, optional, and negotiated, and participants are encouraged to honor their own boundaries throughout.
The workshop will include structured instruction alongside open jam-style opportunities, allowing participants to integrate the material through improvisation and play.
This offering is open to all experience levels. No prior contact improvisation experience is required.…
