About the event
Open Practice in the Carriage Room is a participatory music practice devoted to improvisation, deep listening, and making sound together—without a set list, hierarchy, or pressure to perform.
These bi-weekly gatherings are designed for musicians, singers, percussionists, spoken word artists, and curious listeners who want a space to practice the essential skills of collaborative music-making: listening, timing, restraint, risk, and response. While familiar songs may occasionally surface, the heart of Open Practice is authentic, improvised music—created in the moment through shared attention and trust.
Each session is gently anchored by local musicians, invited to help set the tone and hold musical continuity for the evening. This offers visiting artists a chance to practice in community, build relationships, and organically grow a local audience—while keeping the focus on shared exploration rather than performance.
All skill levels are welcome. You do not need to be a seasoned musician to participate. Participation might look like…
